Welcome to Perea Elementary

Perea Elementary is a public charter school located in North Memphis. Opened in Fall 2018, our school brings a unique, nationally-acclaimed elementary school model to Memphis.

In partnership with Perea Preschool (Memphis, TN), Perea Elementary School applies thoroughly researched practices best to prepare our students academically, socially, and emotionally for success today and tomorrow.

Our wholistic approach to education prepares students for success beyond the classroom.

Our Teaching Model

At Perea, we focus learning on three pillars of education:

Academic Intelligence

We believe that students must be active participants in their learning and construct meaning for themselves. Thus, we foster academic intelligence through the implementation of rigorous, standards-based curricula, in a flexible learning environment.

We do not ascribe to a one-size-fits-all model of education because we appreciate that every student comes to us with individual learning needs and styles. Our curricula and instructional methods combine structure with student choice and couples high expectations with differentiation.

Social-Emotional Intelligence

While students ultimately attend school to master academic standards and skills, we believe that social-emotional learning stands side-by-side with academic learning. Social-emotional health is the ability to understand and manage one's emotions, reactions and relationships.

Every child needs to develop social-emotional skills to be successful in school and in life. Our model will help students understand their brain, learn how to cope in difficult situations and empower them to be their strongest and brightest selves.

In return, our students will have the ability to establish and maintain healthy relationships with adults and their peers as our model teaches them about Safe Relationships, Self-Regulation, Awareness of Self, Understanding Others and what it means to be a Changemaker.

Interpersonal Intelligence

We view interpersonal intelligence as the capacity for adults – be it parents or school staff – to form meaningful, effective relationships that ultimately support student learning. We aim to create opportunities for parents to engage with the school, other parents, and their children through enriched family engagement.

In doing so, we believe that parents will gain an authentic understanding of the school and of other parents as well as deepen their understanding of and relationship with themselves and their child(ren), which we firmly believe will empower parents to actively invest in and support their child(ren)’s learning at school and home. We do not ascribe to a one-size-fits-all model of education because we appreciate that every student comes to us with individual learning needs and styles. Our curricula and instructional methods combine structure with student choice and couples high expectations with differentiation.
